3 years ago, i decided to move to california. since then, i have written a full manuscript of poetry, earned a master’s degree, transitioned to veganism, and started a career in silicon valley. now, it’s time for the next chapter of my life. in june, i will be moving back to the east coast — back to my city, my people, my homegurls & mi familia. oy, i’m excited.
in two weeks, the kitties, the love and i will drive across the american southwest into new orleans and tallahassee, as we make our way back to philly. just a day or two after i get home, i’ll be taking a 6 hour train ride to greensburg, where i will enjoy a week-long poetry fellowship at cave canem. there, i’ll write every single day — a rare discipline that i am still learning to cultivate.
in july, i’ll be starting a new job as an SEO consultant at an agency that holds community events like this. i’m stoked, ready to learn lots more as i continue to geek out on the internet. i may even get to use my portuguese for something other than watching novelas. yes!
in these last days, i have drifted between anxious and elated, but the funny thing is, 2 or 3 weeks ago, none of this was even on the radar. life has a funny way of bringing surprises at just the right time. this post is a little more dear diary than i’m used to, but acknowledging these facts is my own way of being thankful.
i dunno what’s worse:
1. that i searched for pictures of beyonce and her baby
2. that i noticed she wasn’t holding an iphone
3. that i scoured the internet to find beyonce’s blackberry porsche (p9981)
i give up on being cool.
so much good news. i don’t even know where to begin.
